Maseman, Ray

Ray Maseman

Ray Maseman is a native of Chicago, currently living and working is Albuquerque, New Mexico. He earned his BFA in Printmaking from the University of Denver, and is now a full-time printmaker. He is the Maser Printer and Workshop Manager at New Grounds Print Workshop, one of the first non-toxic print studios in the country.

Ray draws from dreams, myths, children’s stories, and personal observations to create insightful narratives in his etchings. He describes his choice of printmaking as a medium:

“The printmaking process in general, and etching in particular, is grounded in 16th century technology. At the same time, it demands that I make use of contemporary equipment and media. As a printmaker, I combine art and science in a way that allows me to construct and communicate a matrix of information…and most of all, I get to play with ideas and hunt down answers to questions I didn’t even know I had.”
