Ernest Blumenschein

Ernest L. Blumenschein, was one of the founders of the Taos Society of Artists in Taos, New Mexico. In 1895 he met Joseph Henry Sharp and Bert R. Phillips at the Acadèmie Julian in Paris, and on the advice of Sharp in 1898, the three set out on a sketching trip to Taos. In 1915, Blumenschein became a founding member of the Taos Society of Artists and his colleagues regarded him as the most accomplished painter of the group. His landscapes often depicted Native American and Mexican American subjects. Blumenschein permanently moved to Taos in 1919 were he contributed significantly to the development of the art community.
