Wayne Shrubsall

Tom Wayne Shrubsall was born in Ft. Wayne, Indiana, in 1943. He was educated in the Lutheran schools systems, at Ball State University (B.S. 1965, M.A.1966), and at UNM (Ph.D., 1985). Tom Wayne has taught for 43 years at the University of Kentucky, the University of New Mexico, the Albuquerque Public Schools, TVI (now CNM), and College of Santa Fe. Tom Wayne is also a scholar of folklore, folk music, and popular music, and has presented and performed folk music, pop, Broadway-style theater, and traditional jazz for fifty years. He retired from full-time teaching in 2003 and still resides with his wife Barbara in Albuquerque. Tom Wayne Shrubsall has played the four- and five-string banjos since 1959. During this half-century, he has become adept in the styles featured on the banjo from 1843 to the present. He has worked with professional as well as amateur musicians, with local bluegrass, Dixieland jazz, and traditional dance-music bands. Moreover, Dr. Shrubsall has been a featured performer on more than ten albums, and has done studio work on many other musicians’ recordings. He has presented this program many times in the past. He is a member of Jazz A la Carte Dixieland band, the Adobe Brothers, the Old Time Band, and other groups in the Southwest and West. TOM WAYNE SHRUBSALL , now retired from CNM, taught religion surveys and religion courses at CNM (then TVI) and at College of Santa Fe for over ten years. In addition to religion surveys, Dr. Shrubsall also taught introductory courses to the First (or Old) Testament and to the New Testament as well as a courses in New Religious Movements.
