1138 APD Reforms Update

March 23, 2018 – A public court hearing was held last week in the case that aims to reform the Albuquerque Police Department. It was the first hearing since Mayor Tim Keller and Police Chief Mike Geier took office. Many expressed optimism with the new administration’s approach to the reforms. Is that optimism justified? December 29, 2017 – Number four on our list of the top ten stories of 2017 is the ATF (Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives) sting that led to a disproportionate number of arrests of African Americans in Albuquerque and ongoing reforms of Albuquerque’s police department.
