Voting For Future Generations: Education

The Obama administration launched the Generation Indigenous imitative last year to increase support for Native students across the country. In the first part of Elections 2016: Voting For Future Generations, Native educator Amidooli “Ami” Pacheco (Kewa) shares his thoughts on the connections between education and elections.

Pacheco gave a talk on Indigenous education at a local TEDxABQED event in March: An Indigenous Student’s Perspective: History, Culture, and Language. We also travel to the Santa Fe Indian School to hear from students who participated in a mock election based on the 2016 presidential campaigns.

This program is produced by New Mexico PBS for a presentation of Vision Maker Media with major funding provided by the Corporation for Public Broadcasting

New Mexico in Focus is on hiatus as our team gears up for coverage of the general election; we'll be back with all new journalism in October.
