Vocational Training in New Mexico

July 28, 2017 – New Mexico’s companies are seeking qualified, educated candidates to fill certain jobs, according to data from the Department of Workforce Solutions. but not every job requires a college degree. According to the Department of Workforce Solutions, just over 40 percent of employers are seeking candidates that have some type of vocational training. A survey by the department found that some jobs that were difficult to fill in New Mexico are in the fields of agriculture, construction, waste management and healthcare.

Our Education Desk team, UNM students Anthony Herrera and Kevin Maestas, looked at opportunities in vocational training this month and brought in two local leaders to talk about the issue with producer Sarah Gustavus.
