The Line: State Certifies 2018 Elections, But More Still To Be Done

November 30, 2018 – The 2018 midterm elections have been certified by the State Canvassing Board, but that doesn’t mean that the election fuss is over. Tight finishes will lead to a vote recount in three state legislative races, and a judge has agreed to impound the absentee ballots in the race for the Congressional District 2 seat to check for any voting irregularities. Also, Secretary of State Maggie Toulouse Oliver has said she will push for same-day voter registration in the upcoming legislative session, and there will likely be a new call for open primaries as well. With more democratic control in the House, is any of this more likely to pass this year?

Gene Grant and the Line panelists debate this question and wrap up the recent elections with their thoughts on the voting process.

Line Panelists:
Dan Foley, former NM House minority whip
Eric Griego, former NM state senator
