The Line: New Mexico Primary Results

June 10, 2016 – Voter turnout for the 2016 primary elections in New Mexico was higher than in past presidential election years. According to unofficial results from the New Mexico Secretary of State, about 33% of eligible voters cast a ballot this week.

Former U.S. Secretary of State Hilary Clinton won New Mexico and added 18 delegates to her total count. Sen. Bernie Sanders ended the night with 16 delegates. N.M. had a total 34 up for grabs. On the Republican side, Donald Trump won nearly 70% of the vote in the primary, adding New Mexico’s 24 delegates to his overall count.

Host Gene Grant leads a debate this week with our Line opinion panelists about the results of the primary and what’s next as candidates prepare for the general election in November.

“I am very happy about the fact that there was an amazing amount of turnout…young people getting involved, I don’t care where they are on the issues right now it doesn’t matter, what matters is they are starting to think about the issues,” says Eddy Aragon.
