The Line: Leadership Duo At NMSU To Earn Combined Salary Of $950,000

June 1, 2018 – The regents of New Mexico State University have replaced outgoing chancellor/president Garry Carruthers with incoming chancellor Dan Arvizu and incoming president John Floros. At a base salary of $500k per year for Arvizu and $450k for Floros, critics are calling the compensation packages excessive. But Regents say they needed to attract the best talent by being competitive on a national level. Gene Grant and the Line opinion panelists debate whether this was a wise move, and if the new leadership team will be able to fulfill their mandates of increasing student enrollment, research revenue, and alumni giving.
