The Line: Griego Investigation

June 17, 2016 – The case surrounding former state senator Phil Griego is heating up as prosecutors are requesting that the Legislative Council disclose information about an ethics investigation about Griego, but the halted on releasing those documents until a judge ordered the documents to be released.

Griego is charged with nine crimes in February of this year after questions arise about the legality of Griego’s involvement in the sale of a State building in Santa Fe. Griego has pleaded not guilty to the charges and the trial is set to begin on July 15.

In the latest news surrounding this case, the Attorney General’s office requested documents surrounding Griego and his involvement in the sale but the council declined to provide documents.

On Tuesday a judge ruled that the council must provide the documents requested because, according to an article in the Albuquerque Journal, the judge ruled that, “Legislative Council Service has no ‘constitutional privilege’ to refuse to produce the records.”
