The Line: Education Secretary-Designate Asked To Resign Over Manifest Destiny Comment
January 26, 2018 – State Senator Linda Lopez is calling for Education Secretary-Designate Christopher Ruszkowski to resign over a comment he made last month praising Manifest Destiny. Many say the remark showed a lack of understanding about the history of westward expansion and the role of education in dispossessing native populations. A PED spokesperson said that Mr. Ruszkowski reached out to tribal officials to apologize and that he won’t resign. Gene Grant and the Line opinion panelists discuss the controversy this week.
