The Line: Department of Education Considers Changes to Science Teaching Standards

September 22, 2017 – The New Mexico Education Department sparked controversy this week, by proposing modifications and changes to the state’s science teaching standards. Those standards haven’t been updated in almost 15 years, but critics say the suggestions go too far.  One example includes not identifying the age of the earth as 4.6 billion years old. Host Gene Grant and the Line opinion panelists discuss the changes in depth, and why they are sparking such debate among experts, educators, administrators and community members.

Line Panelists:
Dede Feldman, Former State Senator
Diane Snyder, Former State Senator
Dan Foley, Former House Minority Whip
Sophie Martin, Attorney
