The Line: Candidates Living Outside Their District

May 13, 2016 – Political reporter Milan Simonich wrote an article this week that caught our attention at New Mexico in Focus. Jeff Varela is running for the District 48 seat in the New Mexico House, which was held by his father Luciano “Lucky” Varela for decades. Simonich reported that although Varela is registered with an address in the district, he owns a house in Rio Rancho and has campaigned for elected office in that community in the past.

Do voters care if candidates actually live in their district? Host Gene Grant leads debate on that question in this week’s show.
