The Line: Report Shows UNM Athletics Favors Males Over Females

June 8, 2018 – A new report shows UNM’s athletic department is not Title IX compliant, meaning that it falls short of federal guidelines for gender equality.  How will UNM’s apparent non-compliance affect the future of several sports programs that are already on the hook due to budget deficits?  Gene Grant and the Line speculate on what steps the university might take to level the playing field in order not to lose federal money.

The Line: UNM Risks State Funding Over Athletic Department Deficit

April 6, 2018 – New Mexico’s Secretary of Higher Education, Barbara Damron, has been waiting for an athletics deficit reduction payment plan from UNM since she asked for it in October of 2017. Last week, in a letter to new University of New Mexico President Garnett Stokes, Damron said it must be submitted by May 1 or state funding for the entire university could be jeopardized. Gene Grant and the Line opinion panel discuss the impact of the athletics deficit on the university community.
