Author Hampton Sides Brings History To Life With Story Of Korean War Battle

Hampton Sides Still

December 14, 2018 – New Mexico author Hampton Sides has made a career of bringing history to life in engaging and powerful ways, whether it be Kit Carson and his manifest destiny mantra, or the race to be the first explorers to map the North Pole. His latest work brings to life another amazing story, this time from what is often referred to as “the forgotten war” in North Korea. “On Desperate Ground” is the brutal story of the battle for Chosin Reservoir. The U.S. First Marine Corps faced three opponents in that battle: treacherous terrain, frigid temperatures, and a massive Chinese army. Correspondent Megan Kamerick sits down with the author to find out what drew him to this story, and how it still resonates today.
