January 26, 2018 – Many local governments and schools hire lobbyists to chase after money from the state government. Some good government groups, such as Think New Mexico, argue that more transparency and simplicity in the legislature would eliminate the need for lobbyists. December 15, 2017 – Lobbyist Vanessa Alarid alleges former state lawmaker Thomas Garcia touched her inappropriately and asked for sex in exchange for a key vote in the legislature. Alarid shared her story with national and local media. Garcia denies the allegations.
