1315 Indigenous Peoples Day

October 11, 2019 – On Monday, October 14, New Mexico officially celebrates its first Indigenous People’s Day. Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham signed a bill this year which replaces Columbus Day with the new celebration. New Mexico has joined a handful of states to scrap the federal observance. Correspondent Antonia Gonzales sits down with three Native artists and activists to talk about what Indigenous Peoples’ Day means to them, how they plan to celebrate, and how they can communicate what the day is about to non-Indigenous people who are curious.
