The Line: Community Policing Proposal for Albuquerque’s Route 66

Nob Hill

May 10, 2019 – Businesses located in the Central Avenue corridor have seen enough, heard enough, and now, enough is enough. For a new coalition of business owners, crime—and its financial consequences—has reached a breaking point.  In response, they’ve come up with their own solutions. The city, so far, agrees with the approach. Gene Grant and the Line opinion panelists discuss the details of the plan, the costs, and its potential.

NMiF also held a Facebook Live interview with three people who have businesses along Central Avenue about what they want to see from the city in terms of police and more.  Gene Grant interviews Jean Bernstein, Jay Rembe, and Len Romano.

The Line: Migrants Seeking Asylum Surge Through Albuquerque

Albuquerque Immigration

May 10, 2019 – The accommodation of asylum seekers as they work their way through the immigration process was bolstered this week with an Albuquerque City Council vote to allocate $250,000 for humanitarian support in their transition through the city. But some are wondering how it is Albuquerque can come up with this kind of money so quickly with so many homeless people on its streets desperate for services and support as well. Host Gene Grant and The Line opinion panelists debate the proposal, which passed by a 6 to 3 vote.
