Senator William Burt & Representative Brian Egolf, Dr. Rick Aster, NM Drought

This week, on NEW MEXICO IN FOCUS, it’s a trip up to the Roundhouse to visit lawmakers in the thick of the legislative session. NMiF correspondent Gwyneth Doland talks with Senator William Burt and Representative Brian Egolf about the Governor’s push to get legislators to give up capital outlay monies for major water projects.

Also featured this week, is Dr. Rick Aster, head of the Department of Geosciences at Colorado State University. His lecture in Albuquerque last fall was called “The Future of Ice on Earth,” and he spoke with NMiF correspondent Furhana Afrid about the ongoing changes in the oceans and atmosphere that are driving remarkable changes in Earth’s permafrost, glaciers, and icecaps, and how global changes affect New Mexico’s climate.

NMiF host Gene Grant and The Line opinion panel look at the economic toll of New Mexico’s drought on farmers, and how the need for water from the Rio Grande is leading to a lawsuit by Texas against our state.

The Line also looks at what some are calling an outbreak of “amendment fever” in the legislature, and examines one of those proposed amendments designed to increase the state’s minimum wage.
