“Pop-Up Park” Blooms in ABQ’s International District

December 27, 2019 – NMiF reprises one of its favorite field pieces from the year. In August, neighbors in Albuquerque’s International District worked with the Nature Conservancy and Rocky Mountain Youth Corps to transform a vacant lot into a pop-up public park. The International District – long known by the less flattering moniker the “War Zone” – is one of the lowest income areas in Albuquerque and has few natural spaces. Among the goals for the project were to build community and help add greenery to one of the hottest parts of New Mexico’s biggest city.
