NM Mental Health Services, Economic Development Incentives, Department of Justice Report on APD

This week on NEW MEXICO IN FOCUS, Producer Megan Kamerick speaks with a group of mental health professionals about the growing demand for more mental health services, as well as plans for more training for officers, in the wake of the Albuquerque Police Department shootings and subsequent protests.

Host Gene Grant discusses economic development incentives and transparency with Greg LeRoy of Good Jobs First, which recently gave New Mexico low rankings on the data publicly available from the state’s incentive programs. Also joining the discussion are State Sen. Tim Keller, D-Albuquerque, and Richard Anklam of the New Mexico Tax Research Institute.

The Line opinion panel discusses a long-awaited report from the Department of Justice, which launched a civil rights investigation into the Albuquerque Police Department and whether APD engages in a pattern or practice of the use of excessive force, including unreasonable deadly force.

The Line also looks at growing momentum by those who say they suffered health impacts from the first atomic bomb test to get congressional recognition and compensation. They recently held their first protest near the Trinity Site.
