NM Legislature Backfills Some Federal Funding Cuts for Public Media

10.3.2025 After Congress in July, 2025, clawed back more than $1 billion in federal funding for PBS, NPR and public media stations across the country, the New Mexico Legislature has voted to help fund local stations with state dollars. Three public tv stations and 12 public radio stations will share $5.6 million, which amounts to about one of the two years of federal funding they lost. NMiF Correspondent Gwyneth Doland spoke with lawmakers about what their districts’ stations mean to their communities.
