NM 2026 Election: Congressional District 2

October 16, 2026

This week on New Mexico in Focus, we continue our election coverage with a look at one of the nation’s most closely watched races: New Mexico’s Congressional District 2. U.S. Rep. Gabe Vasquez is running for a third term, while challenger Greg Cunningham is aiming to oust the Democratic incumbent and secure the district for the Republican party for the first time since 2020. Host Nash Jones sat down with both candidates to discuss a long list of issues: public safety and federal immigration enforcement, as well as recent cuts to food and healthcare programs.
