International Law And Asylum

June 22, 2018 – The separation of young children from their families at the border came to a head this week, especially after all of the living former First Ladies spoke out against the Trump administration policy. On Wednesday, President Trump issued an executive order halting the policy – although there remain over 2,000 children who don’t know when they will be reunited with their parents. The detention of the children also raises many questions about how the U.S. government is treating people who seek asylum at border checkpoints. Correspondent Megan Kamerick sat down this week with Jennifer Moore, professor at the University of New Mexico School of Law, to talk about international law and our nation’s obligations to address asylum seekers.
