Darnell Moves Up to Deputy Chief of Staff for Governor Martinez

Steve Terrell of the Santa Fe New Mexican broke the news Thursday afternoon that Scott Darnell, the Director of Communications for Governor Susana Martinez, will become deputy chief of staff on Monday. The post has been vacant since Ryan Cangiolosi left to take a newly created post at the University of New Mexico’s Health Sciences Center.

According to Terrell, current Department of Children, Youth, and Families spokesman Enrique Knell will assume Darnell’s old role.

The Line panel reacted as the news broke both of the staffing moves and the completion of a recount in Dona Ana County that returned Republican Representative Terry McMillan to the legislature. McMillan had been tied with Joanne Ferrary in unofficial results. The state Canvassing Board meets Friday to finalize results.
