CHASING THE DREAM: Building Family Assets

May 20, 2016 – This week on New Mexico in Focus, we learn how some individuals and families in New Mexico are using Individual Development Accounts, or IDAs, to save for goals like attending college, buying a house or starting a business. Prosperity Works offers financial literacy training and matching funds that people save in the program.

Join correspondent Megan Kamerick as she brings us an inside look at the program and how participants have seen changes in their lives that go far beyond greater financial security.

Chasing the Dream: Poverty and Opportunity in America is a multi-platform public media initiative that provides a deeper understanding of the impact of poverty on American society. Major funding for this initiative is provided by The JPB Foundation. Additional funding is provided by Ford Foundation.

  1. Thanks to NM PBS for documenting the success of these families. They are an absolute testament to our belief that the opposite of poverty is not wealth but opportunity and social justice!

  2. Jeez! I missed that but will find out if they will be running it again anytime soon.
    thanks for the heads up!

  3. A great summary of the asset-building approach to poverty and powerful comments from parents and children who are learning to use their financial knowledge and building savings habits.
