Bringing Back STEM Grads

December 15, 2017 – The so-called “brain drain” of talented young professionals from New Mexico is a topic that comes up often in New Mexico. There are many ideas for making sure recent graduates can find jobs and opportunities here. But what about those professionals who have already left but want to return home?

Maggie Werner-Washburne, regents’ professor emerita at UNM, put together an upcoming event to connect STEM professionals with employers and potential investors. The New Mexico Educated Workforce in STEM Symposium is taking place December 20-21 in Albuquerque.

Producer Sarah Gustavus sat down this week with Werner-Washburne, recent UNM graduate and former Albuquerque mayoral candidate Gus Pedrotty, and UNM PhD student Jacqueline DeLora to talk about potential solutions for addressing the brain drain and ensuring students and young professionals know what’s available for them in New Mexico.
