That’s a Wrap!
This week’s episode of New Mexico in Focus marks our last before the 2026 general election. We’ve got interviews with Democratic U.S. Rep. Teresa Leger Fernández, who is seeking a fourth term representing Congressional District 3, and her Republican challenger, state Rep. Martin Zamora, a Clovis-based farmer and rancher by trade.
And to round things out, we sit down with Ramona Goolsby, a Republican nurse practitioner who has made a name for herself in recent years as one of New Mexico’s loudest election-system critics. Now, after sailing unopposed through the GOP primary, Goolsby wants to run that system as secretary of state.
Some of you might remember that we took a short hiatus in September to regroup and prepare for election coverage. The staffing challenges and other headwinds that precipitated the break remain, but we’ve managed in October to burrow deep into seven important questions on this year’s ballot: six races and a proposed change to the state constitution.
You can watch all of our election coverage on the NMiF YouTube page.
We’ll be back next week with results and analysis — aided by a group of experts and journalists who’ve been watching keenly throughout another interesting election cycle.
But before I go, a thank you to three of the folks without whom you’d have been watching color bars or old episodes of Petticoat Junction on Friday nights at 7 this past month instead of high-quality journalism about democracy. They are Producer Antonio Sanchez, Host Nash Jones and Politics Correspondent Gwyneth Doland.
It’s been a long October and, to be frank, we don’t have enough bodies to produce this much news and news analysis. But because these three believe as deeply as they do in informing your decision at the ballot box, we did it anyway.
Please join me in raising a glass to Antonio, Nash and Gwyneth. They deserve it.
