Funding to Study Interstate Medical Compacts Passes
10.3.2025 – Democratic New Mexico Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham and Republican lawmakers agree that the state joining an interstate medical licensure compact could make a sizable dent in the state’s doctor shortage. While a proposal didn’t make it into the special legislative session in October, funding to study the idea did, and Democratic leaders have said they’ll take the idea up in January’s regular session. NMiF Host Nash Jones spoke with Marschall Smith, executive director of the Interstate Medical Licensure Compact Commission, to learn more about how they work.
