The Line: Bernalillo County’s Security Camera Analytical Network

August 4, 2017 – The City of Albuquerque and Bernalillo County have teamed up on a new project called SCAN, which stands for the Security Camera Analytical Network. The goal is to create a large security-camera map, by getting businesses and home owners to voluntarily register the cameras that they have. According to APD Chief Gorden Eden, “This is not a monitoring program. We do not monitor your cameras. It’s a networking capability and an investigative tool for our detectives and our criminal agents.”  The Line discusses the upsides – and possible downsides – of this program.

Line Panelists:
Dan Boyd, capitol bureau chief for the Albuquerque Journal
Dan Foley, former House minority whip
Sophie Martin, attorney and editor of DukeCityFix.com
Stephen Spitz, host of New Mexico People Places and Ideas on KUNM
