The Line: UNM Risks State Funding Over Athletic Department Deficit

April 6, 2018 – New Mexico’s Secretary of Higher Education, Barbara Damron, has been waiting for an athletics deficit reduction payment plan from UNM since she asked for it in October of 2017. Last week, in a letter to new University of New Mexico President Garnett Stokes, Damron said it must be submitted by May 1 or state funding for the entire university could be jeopardized. Gene Grant and the Line opinion panel discuss the impact of the athletics deficit on the university community.

December 29, 2017 – Number one the Line panel’s list of the top stories of 2017 are the scandals surrounding the University of New Mexico’s Athletics Department. Financial controls seemed out of control and former athletics direct Paul Krebs retired amid controversy over a donor golfing trip to Scotland and unpaid donor suites at the Pit.
Gene Grant and the Line panel of local journalists discuss the scandal and look at the potential future of the department under the leadership of the new athletics director Eddie Nuñez, and incoming UNM president Garnett Stokes.
