We\u2019re\u00a0off and running on another year here\u00a0at\u00a0New Mexico in Focus.\u00a0For our first show of 2026 we’re going to spend some time looking ahead to the upcoming regular legislative session where,\u00a0because\u00a0it is an even-numbered year,\u00a0lawmakers\u00a0will spend the majority of their time focused on budget issues. Democratic Speaker of the House\u00a0Javier Mart\u00ednez\u00a0visits\u00a0our studio this week for a chat with\u00a0Host Nash Jones. Nash asks Martinez about his caucus\u2019 priorities and some of the\u00a0issues\u00a0where legislators\u00a0might be at odds with Gov.\u00a0Michelle Lujan Grisham. You can expect in-depth legislative coverage leading up to and during this year\u2019s session, including a full preview with a roundtable of statehouse reporters on next week\u2019s show.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But we\u00a0aren\u2019t\u00a0just\u00a0future-focused\u00a0this week. Nash starts the show with a summary of laws legislators passed\u00a0in 2025\u00a0that\u00a0have taken effect to start the new year. That includes some significant stop-gap funding to\u00a0address federal cuts to\u00a0programs such as\u00a0the Supplemental\u00a0Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP)<\/a>\u00a0and health\u00a0care subsidies through the Affordable Care Act.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We\u2019ll\u00a0also take a step away from state government with a conversation on\u00a0the health\u00a0of New Mexico\u2019s craft beer industry.\u00a0You may have noticed\u00a0a major beer company in the Albuquerque area, Bosque Brewing, closed the doors\u00a0at\u00a0all of its locations over Christmas.\u00a0This week, I got to sit down with\u00a0a\u00a0beer-industry insider, Chris Jackson aka Stoutmeister<\/a>, and lead writer for the beer blog Dark Side Brew Crew<\/a>.\u00a0Chris joined me for a conversation alongside\u00a0Albuquerque Journal\u00a0reporter Natalie Robbins<\/a>\u00a0to understand why the company\u00a0shuttered\u00a0so abruptly and what it signals about the industry at large.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n
