And while the monsoon rains haven\u2019t been as robust there this summer as farmers would hope, we were happy to see clouds building over Kaweshtima \u2014 also known as Mount Taylor \u2014 and the mesas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You might remember <a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/xVFjD3ZqkC8?si=hxaZOtdGOPcRj_KY\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">that in this segment with farmer Aaron Lowden<\/a>, we learned that when the <a href=\"https:\/\/sourcenm.com\/2024\/08\/02\/rematriating-seeds-in-the-face-of-change\/\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">higher elevation lands are dry, the elk head down to the fields<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sure enough, as Lowden showed us yesterday evening, an elk had gotten into the field and chowed down on the tops of the corn. Along with Domonique Lowden, Acoma Ancestral Lands Farm Coordinator, and others, they\u2019re working to build a new elk fence.
