(As an aside, as far as I can tell, the U.S. Department of Defense just continues to ignore, punt on, or otherwise neglect any of its admitted responsibilities for having contaminated vast amounts of New Mexico\u2019s groundwater with \u201cforever chemicals.\u201d) &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to a press release from the New Mexico Environment Department, that agency, the New Mexico Office of Natural Resources Trustee, and the New Mexico Attorney General have amended their lawsuit against the Defense Department: \u201cthe amended lawsuit utilizes a newly-finalized U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) rule that went into effect on July 8, 2024 that allows the State of New Mexico to recover the costs of clean-up actions and monetary damages for natural resources.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>That new EPA rule categorizes two types of PFAS \u2014 perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA) and perfluorooctanesulfonic acid (PFOS) \u2014 as hazardous substances under federal law. Now, under the amended lawsuit, the state is seeking all \u201cpast and future clean-up costs\u201d at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.newmexicopbs.org\/productions\/groundwater-war\/2020\/09\/21\/new-mexicans-await-military-response-two-years-after-cannon-revealed-pfas-contamination\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Cannon Air Force Base<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.newmexicopbs.org\/productions\/groundwater-war\/2020\/12\/01\/questions-remain-about-pfas-pollution-from-holloman\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Holloman Air Force Base<\/a>, Kirtland Air Force Base, White Sands Missile Range and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.newmexicopbs.org\/productions\/groundwater-war\/2020\/11\/10\/u-s-military-leaves-new-mexico-in-the-dark-on-pfas-again\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Fort Wingate<\/a>. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Lastly, I\u2019m reading and re-reading, \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.allwecansave.earth\/anthology\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><em>All We Can Save: Truth, Courage, and Solutions for the Climate Crisis<\/em>\u201d<\/a> (edited by Anaya Elizabeth Johnson and Katharine K. Wilkinson). I\u2019m going to talk more about it in an upcoming conversation with a guest later this month, but for now, I just want to point you all toward the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.allwecansave.earth\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">All We Can Save Project<\/a> and one of the poems included in the anthology, <a href=\"https:\/\/poets.org\/poem\/dead-stars\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Dead Stars by Ada Lim\u00f3n<\/a>. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Oh, and maybe one more thing, since the mainstream media is already whipping us all up into an election frenzy.
