Right now only party-affiliated voters can participate. The bill passed the Senate last week and now moves on to the House.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nmlegis.gov\/Legislation\/Legislation?Chamber=H&amp;LegType=B&amp;LegNo=7&amp;year=23\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">HB 7<\/a> would guarantee access to reproductive and gender-affirming healthcare to anyone in the state is passed. It was voted through the House last week.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nmlegis.gov\/Legislation\/Legislation?Chamber=H&amp;LegType=B&amp;LegNo=4&amp;year=23\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">HB 4<\/a> would reform elections in several ways \u2013 by expanding automatic voter registration, allowing convicted felons to vote,&nbsp;creating a voluntary, permanent absentee voter list, and enacting the Native American voting rights act. It moves on to the Senate after passing the House last week.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Also last week, the House Taxation and Revenue Committee voted to table <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nmlegis.gov\/Legislation\/Legislation?Chamber=H&amp;LegType=B&amp;LegNo=230&amp;year=23\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">HB 230<\/a>, which would increase alcohol taxes by 25-cents per drink. The chair of the committee, State Representative Derrick Lente says they\u2019ll have to wait and see if a compromise can be reached.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nmlegis.gov\/Legislation\/Legislation?Chamber=S&amp;LegType=B&amp;LegNo=418&amp;year=23\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">SB 418<\/a> would modernize the state\u2019s Oil and Gas Act by considering the impacts on the environment and disadvantaged communities. It will go before the Senate Conservation Committee this week.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>After that, New Mexico in Focus Political Correspondent Gwyneth Doland catches up with three lawmakers to ask about some good governance legislation, including two <a href=\"https:\/\/nmlegis.gov\/Legislation\/Legislation?Chamber=H&amp;LegType=JR&amp;LegNo=2&amp;year=23\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">HJR 2<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/nmlegis.gov\/Legislation\/Legislation?Chamber=H&amp;LegType=JR&amp;LegNo=8&amp;year=23\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">HJR 8<\/a>, which would modernize the state legislature.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Then, Gene Grant and the Line Opinion Panel talk through those good governance bills, and debate their potential effectiveness.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Gene and the Panel also discuss a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nmlegis.gov\/Legislation\/Legislation?Chamber=S&amp;LegType=JR&amp;LegNo=1&amp;year=23\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">SJR 1<\/a> which would recreate a state board of education, making that the authoritative body on education, instead of the current system of a single Public Education Secretary.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Finally, New Mexico in Focus Correspondent Antonia Gonzales speaks with newly-elected Navajo Nation President Buu Nygren about his first month in office, and his priorities for the tribe through the remainder of his term.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Host: Lou DiVizio<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Correspondents: Gwyneth Doland, Antonia Gonzales<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Line Host: Gene Grant<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Guests:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>St. Rep.
