According to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.santafenewmexican.com\/news\/local_news\/pnm-sought-a-partner-to-grow-with-avangrid-was-the-only-one-seriously-considered\/article_f69d9c14-b806-11eb-b8a0-bb01932d55a0.html\"><em>Santa Fe New Mexican<\/em><\/a>: \u201cThe proposed merger is an $8.3 billion deal with a total of $4.3 billion going to shareholders and Avangrid paying off $4 billion in PNM debt.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>How the merger might play out in New Mexico\u2014and what the consequences might be\u2014remains to be seen. But the company has been operating in Maine for more than a decade, and not without controversy.
