The answer reveals a lot about us. Are we good? We hear from a high school athlete who is worried about going back to a crowded campus, a woman who lost her mother to COVID-19, an anti-police brutality activist who sees focused protesters demanding positive local change, a community organizer whose family was torn apart after their activism, and an advocate who networks community groups to pay people to make masks. We know everyone out there is working hard in one way or another. So, how are you?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.sandiaprep.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Sandia Prep<\/a>&nbsp;junior Santiago Cooper talks about his apprehension when it comes to going back to school in the Fall. Thought he wants to see his friends and get back to baseball, he says.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mariaelena Lopez says she\u2019s OK after losing her mother to COVID-19. She is grieving and accepting the change in life, she tells us, and now she\u2019s more appreciative of the simple things, and the company of her friends and family.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Kawya Esperanza helped organize some of the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/blacklivesmatter.com\/about\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Black Lives Matter<\/a>&nbsp;demonstrations in Albuquerque. She says she&#8217;s feeling inspired after the latest protest against police violence in front of&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cabq.gov\/police\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">APD<\/a>\u2019s Downtown headquarters last night, where there was a recognizable focus on local police violence here in Albuquerque.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Selinda Guerrero is an activist and a founder of&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/abqmutualaid.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Albuquerque Mutual Aid<\/a>. She talks what it&#8217;s like to raise her family and continue her work even though her husband was sent back to prison for a parole violation after protesting police violence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Executive Producer Marisa Demarco asks her sister, Monica Demarco, \u201cHow are you doing?\u201d Monica talks about using creativity to help build a network of sewers as part of&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.swop.net\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Southwest Organizing Project<\/a>. The sewers make cloth masks for people who are most at risk during the pandemic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>And a local news update:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Here in New Mexico,<a href=\"https:\/\/www.kunm.org\/post\/fri-pandemic-prompts-cancellation-new-mexico-state-fair-more\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">&nbsp;the AP reports<\/a>&nbsp;City Councilor Pat Davis is being called to resign by&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/progressnownm.org\/?p=225026\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">ProgressNow New Mexico<\/a>&nbsp; \u2014 an advocacy group the Councilor founded \u2013 after new details emerged about his shooting of a Black man in 2004 while working as a police officer in Washington D.C., and what the group called, \u201ca pattern of racist behavior targeting Black and Brown communities.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Gov. Lujan Grisham today granted clemency for 19 people convicted of crimes in New Mexico. According to the Governor\u2019s Office, most were pardoned for non-violent offenses. These are the first pardons in New Mexico since 2012 according to&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/nmindepth.com\/2019\/01\/23\/former-gov-martinez-stayed-stingy-with-pardons-to-the-end\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">New Mexico In Depth.&nbsp;<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Officials with the New Mexico State Fair announced today the event has been canceled due to the coronavirus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>New Mexico health officials reported 225 new coronavirus cases today, bringing the total to more than 11,400.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>We&#8217;re keeping a complete list of the resources and volunteer opportunities that we find for each episode at<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.kunm.org\/post\/ynmg-hub-covid-resources-and-volunteers\" target=\"_blank\">&nbsp;bit.ly\/YNMGhub<\/a>.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>*****<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em><em><em>This segment is part of the &#8220;Your New Mexico Government&#8221; Project (#YourNMgov), a collaboration between New Mexico PBS, KUNM Radio, and the Santa Fe Reporter.
