We talk with the secretary of state about what it takes for politicians to keep voters invested and journalists about why there is a lack of faith\u2014and whether it can be restored.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Secretary of State&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.sos.state.nm.us\/about-the-office\/about-the-secretary\/\">Maggie Toulouse Oliver<\/a>&nbsp;talks about the links between the digital divide, voting, and COVID in New Mexico, the importance of local leadership, and trust at state, county, and municipal levels.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Gene Grant, host of&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.newmexicopbs.org\/productions\/newmexicoinfocus\/\">New Mexico in Focus<\/a>, examines voter faith in the political system and President Trump\u2019s missed moment to unite the country during the COVID pandemic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Katherine Lewin with the Santa Fe Reporter tells us about the uneven distribution of federal small business PPP loans, which were disproportionally distributed to businesses&nbsp;in Republican-run states, with only 12 percent of N.M. small businesses that applied for those loans getting them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.sfreporter.com\/\">SF Reporter<\/a>&#8216;s&nbsp; Julia Goldberg talks about people&#8217;s faith in the federal and government vs. the local government, and how public trust for political entities changed in recent decades. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Algernon D\u2019Ammassa from the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.lcsun-news.com\/\">Las Cruces Sun News<\/a>, fills us in on absentee ballots and voting dynamics in New Mexico\u2019s southern counties.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>National expert&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.speakoutnow.org\/speaker\/wise-tim\">Tim Wise<\/a>&nbsp;dives into the importance of general elections for change, and how white supremacist nostalgia fuels authoritarian politics in the U.S.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>And a news update<\/strong>: Restaurants are reopening in New Mexico, and that means enforcement of the public health orders, too,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.koat.com\/article\/as-restaurants-reopen-enforcement-is-in-full-swing\/32704650\">according to KOAT<\/a>. On the first day, State Police say they got 13 complaints about eateries not following the rules. The BioPark in Albuquerque is reopening in phases, too,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.kob.com\/albuquerque-news\/botanic-garden-tingley-beach-to-reopen\/5745215\/?cat=500\">KOB reports<\/a>, with the Botanic Garden and Tingley set to invite patrons back in this month.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>State officials announced 133 new confirmed cases today, which makes the total 7,493, according to the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.sfreporter.com\/news\/2020\/05\/29\/new-mexico-covid-19-cases-7493\/\">Santa Fe Reporter<\/a>. They also announced nine more deaths.
