Being able to get healthy food is a problem for many people all the time in New Mexico, but it&#8217;s become even more of a struggle these last weeks. Many people are working to make sure folks here have food despite new obstacles, like people buying up some items at grocery stores and disrputing the supply chain, social distancing, and extra sanitation precautions to avoid the spread of coronavirus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We hear from Sonya Warwick from&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.rrfb.org\/\">Roadrunner Food Bank<\/a>&nbsp;about some soup kitchens and food pantries closing their doors, and Roadrunner trying to make sure there&#8217;s something available to people in those areas. Dolores Gonzalez, policy and planning director with the&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.nmaging.state.nm.us\/\">Department of Aging and Long Term Services<\/a>, tells us about the huge volunteer effort to get food boxes to seniors around the state.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Vanessa Bowen\u2014an Albuquerque-based graphic designer and DJ\u2014tells us about why she made the decision to start a home garden, and how it&#8217;s helping her family find some peace of mind right now.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mateo Carrasco with the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.swop.net\/\">SouthWest Organizing Project<\/a>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/bccurbanag.com\/\">Urban Agriculture Project<\/a>\u2014which creates gardens, many in the International District\u2014talks about what it takes to grow food and why there&#8217;s historiaclly been barriers to accessing to healthy food for many communities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mayahuel Garza is an instructor with the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.kunm.org\/post\/prescription-delicious-health-solutions\">Cooking For Health<\/a>&nbsp;class in the South Valley at the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.fcch.com\/\">First Choice Community Healthcare clinic<\/a>&nbsp;and an organizer with the&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/agri-cultura.org\/\">Agri-Cultura Network<\/a>. She offers tips on what you can do with inexpensive, nutritious foods in your kitchen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And Erin Garrison with&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.fifabq.org\/\">Food is Free Albuquerque<\/a>&nbsp;talks about harvesting food from local yards and growers, and building free garden boxes for home gardens during the pandemic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>We&#8217;re keeping a complete list of the resources and volunteer opportunities that we find for each episode at&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.kunm.org\/post\/ynmg-hub-covid-resources-and-volunteers\">bit.ly\/YNMGhub<\/a>.
