We also hear from the Albuquerque Police Department and the Las Cruces Police Department about how coronavirus has changed things for them philosophically and practically.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So far, no one in the state is reporting any positive COVID tests for people experiencing homelessness, according to the guests we talked to today.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In this episode, we hear from:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Deputy Chief Harold Medina from the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cabq.gov\/police\">Albuquerque Police Department<\/a><\/li><li>Jenny Metzler, executive director of&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.abqhch.org\/\">Health Care for the Homeless<\/a><\/li><li>Chief Patrick Gallagher from the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.las-cruces.org\/153\/Police\">Las Cruces Police Department<\/a><\/li><li>Hank Hughes from the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nmceh.org\/\">N.M. Coalition to End Homelessness<\/a><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><em><strong>No comment note<\/strong>: We appreciate all of our guest\u2019s time, and that a number of very busy people right now have carved out 15 minutes to speak with Your NM Guv these last weeks\u2014hospital leaders, doctors, congresspeople, cabinet secretaries \u2026 We reached out to several police departments around the state this week for interviews. The State Police Department declined, and so did Rio Rancho PD. Santa Fe\u2019s police chief said he couldn\u2019t do it.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And a news update:&nbsp;Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham announced today that she\u2019s going to extend the shutdown order until May 15,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.kob.com\/new-mexico-news\/gov-lujan-grisham-announces-plans-to-extend-public-health-order-to-may-15\/5708142\/?cat=500\">according to KOB<\/a>. She also rolled out a plan to reopen the economy in phases after that. The governor says New Mexico has flattened the curve but has to maintain social distancing to stay on track. There are 2,210 confirmed cases here today, and there have been 71 deaths.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Navajo Nation will extend closures&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.kob.com\/albuquerque-news\/navajo-nation-extends-closures-until-may-17-to-reduce-spread-of-covid-19\/5707783\/?cat=500\">until May 17<\/a>. McKinley County, which overlaps with the Navajo Nation, has become a major hot spot for cases, according to the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.santafenewmexican.com\/news\/coronavirus\/outbreak-in-navajo-nation-spreads-as-mckinley-county-becomes-hot-spot\/article_91789528-83e6-11ea-9533-5337b73783d7.html\">Santa Fe New Mexican<\/a>. Data is showing that as of today, 41.5 percent of the people in the state who are confirmed to be infected are Native American. The Navajo Nation just announced it\u2019s suing the federal government for its share of the billions allotted to tribes in the federal relief package, saying that money shouldn\u2019t go to corporations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>New Mexico\u2019s senators Tom Udall and Martin Heinrich are urging ICE to release 2,400 detained children during the pandemic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>People in New Mexico who are self-employed, independent contractors and gig workers can start applying for unemployment benefits starting Sunday, April 26,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.krqe.com\/health\/coronavirus-new-mexico\/self-employed-gig-workers-to-qualify-for-unemployment-benefits\/\">KRQE is reporting<\/a>. And if you already filed a claim, you don\u2019t need to do it again.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And the Bernalillo County Clerk is issuing marriage licenses again, starting Monday by appointment only.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;<strong>We&#8217;re keeping a complete list of the resources and volunteer opportunities that we find for each episode at&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.kunm.org\/post\/ynmg-hub-covid-resources-and-volunteers\">bit.ly\/YNMGhub<\/a>.
