There, more than 300 migrant children were detained without adequate food, water, sanitation, and adult supervision. In response to the outcry from the general public and lawmakers on both sides of the aisle, the <a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/a7a9acc4c6a546829a258e008d10d705?utm_source=Twitter&amp;utm_campaign=SocialFlow&amp;utm_medium=AP\">U.S. government started<\/a> moving these young children and teens to better facilities. Or so it seemed.\u00a0 <a href=\"http:\/\/nmpoliticalreport.com\/2019\/06\/26\/immigrant-children-returned-to-west-texas-facility-despite-reports-of-squalid-conditions\/?mc_cid=a83eb9dec7&amp;mc_eid=f20b3604af\">New information from <em>The Texas Tribune<\/em><\/a> reports that 100 of the children had been returned to that same facility.<\/p>\n<p>Some of the children held in that facility had been living under <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2019\/06\/24\/opinions\/children-migrant-centers-at-border-long-austin-hillery\/index.html\">terrible conditions for weeks<\/a>, although federal law mandates that Customs and Border Patrol (CBP) must transfer immigrant children to federally-funded shelters through the Office of Refugee Resettlement. The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) counters, that the children are detained too long in inadequate CBP shelters due to the \u201cunprecedented number of arriving children.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Will Clint, Texas, be ground zero for needed change in our country\u2019s treatment of immigrant children? Will there be better oversight to ensure adequate care for children detainees going forward?\u00a0 Gene Grant and the Line opinion panel debate these at other pressing issues surrounding the immigration crisis at the border.<\/p>\n<p>The panel also looks at a recent report on the Torrance County Detention Facility by Ike Swetlitz of Searchlight New Mexico. The facility closed two years ago when the private company that ran it, CoreCivic, said its daily head counts weren\u2019t high enough to turn a profit.
