Will Democrats Pass on Power?

February 12, 2021 – The Line opinion panel discusses efforts to make New Mexico’s political process more equitable when it comes to redistricting. A nonprofit task force that studied the issue recommends creating a bipartisan commission to do the work, and legislation proposing as much seems to have legs at the Capitol this year. The group hashes out the chances for the measure and whether Democrats, who for the first time in three cycles control the governorship and both houses of the Legislature, will want to cede political power when it seems vital to maintain.
