U.S. Sen. Martin Heinrich on Climate Legislation, Gun Reform, & January 6

At the end of July, West Virginia Senator Joe Manchin finally stopped holding up a climate, energy and tax package. The Inflation Reduction Act is a huge bill that some say, if passed, could transform America’s policy on climate change and energy.

As luck would have it, we already had New Mexico Senator Martin Heinrich coming into the NMPBS studio to talk about climate change legislation. On this episode of the podcast, Laura Paskus talks with Heinrich about the Inflation Reduction Act, as well as a bill related to wildlife and another that would designate a stretch of the Gila River in New Mexico as Wild and Scenic.

The conversation also delves into Holtec International’s plans to bring commercial nuclear waste to New Mexico, gun reform, and January 6.
