PNM’s Dark Money Spending
February 19, 2021 – The Line opinion panel talks about the revelation that PNM’s parent company funded hundreds of thousands of dollars’ worth of political action supporting lawmakers who favor the electricity provider’s preferred policies. The new State Ethics Commission forced the disclosure through legal action, suing a dark money group called the Council for Competitive New Mexico to reveal its donors, a step required under the Campaign Reporting Act. A settlement showed PNM to be the group’s sole donor, delivering almost half a million dollars for the effort.
