March 12, 2021 – Broadband expansion. According to New Mexico’s governor, it’s “the most urgently needed infrastructure investment we can make as a state.” And there are many in agreement with Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham. Connectivity is essential for rural New Mexicans to even the playing field with their urban cousins when it comes to education and jobs. The state Senate and the House recently passed bills to create the New Mexico Office of Broadband Access and Expansion. Critics, however, are skeptical that creating a new government agency will solve the problem.
