The Line: States Around Us Are Growing, But New Mexico’s Population Stagnant

February 3, 2017 – Michael Coleman of the Albuquerque Journal reported earlier this week about New Mexico’s declining population. Coleman points to a fall in oil and gas prices, which led to fewer jobs and lower state revenue in recent years. Brain Sanderoff, president of the Research and Polling Inc, told the paper:

“People will follow the jobs, and lately New Mexico has not been producing them in comparison to our neighbors.”

The New Mexico in Focus Line panel discusses what the state might do to attract more high quality jobs and compete with neighboring states like Texas and Colorado.
