The Line: Senate Overrides Veto By Governor Martinez

March 17, 2017 – State senators voted this week to override a veto by Governor Susana Martinez on a bill that would have allowed teachers more flexibility to use the full number of sick days in their contracts. Right now, teachers are penalized in their evaluations if they take more than three sick days. But current contracts allow teachers to take up to 10 sick days per year. The veto override passed the Senate and is now in the New Mexico House of Representatives. Host Gene Grant and this week’s line opinion panelists debate the significance of this political battle in this week’s show.
