The Line: PED Wants “Rigorous Intervention” For Low-Performing Schools

December 8, 2017 – Standards outlined in the Every Student Succeeds Act, or ESSA, have caused the New Mexico Public Education Department to seek “more rigorous intervention” for four failing schools. One option is to close down those schools. Gene Grant and the Line panel ask the question: Is closing a school the right answer when test scores are low?
