The Line: “Designer” Doctors

October 27, 2017 – Some doctors in New Mexico, feeling overburdened by too many patients and too much paperwork, are starting direct primary care or concierge care practices. Patients pay up front or by yearly retainer fees, and doctors can spend more quality time with them.  But a recent article in the Santa Fe Reporter interviewed some of those doctors – and one whose patient load went from close to 2,500 down to 275.  Where do the “leftover” patients go in a state already facing a primary care doctor shortage?  Gene Grant and the Line opinion panelists discuss.
