Senator Udall Advocates Reforms In Chemical Safety Regulations

October 23, 2015 – Senator Tom Udall is sponsoring legislation that would increase EPA oversight of chemicals that are in products used by consumers across the country.

The current law, the Toxic Substances Control Act, was passed in 1976, and has not been updated to allow for potential regulation or restrictions on chemicals like asbestos, arsenic, styrene, formaldehyde and BPA . Udall and others say the Frank R. Lautenberg Chemical Safety for the 21st Century Act now has bipartisan support. Senator Udall talks about the details of the legislation this week with our correspondent Gwyneth Doland.
